The FBI San Diego Field Office announced Wednesday that Michael James Pratt, 39, had been added to the notorious most wanted list for his alleged involvement in sex trafficking and production of child pornography nearly three years after a federal warrant was issued for his arrest. Buzzfeed News reports that the men still face federal charges of sex trafficking and producing child porn, since some of the exploited individuals were 17 at the time of filming. Pratt fled the US and is now a fugitive, likely in his home country of New Zealand. Most of the video shoots took place in San Diego – at local hotels and short-term rental units. Although the women were promised that the video shoots would be brief, they often took hours. Once home, unbeknownst to the women, Pratt and his co-defendants would post clips of the adult videos on other pornographic sites like Pornhub to lure users to GirlsDoPorn for full-length versions of the films, court records show.

That scheme, revealed during the months-long trial in San Diego Superior Court Judge Kevin Enright’s courtroom, led to criminal human trafficking charges being filed by the US Attorneys Office in the Southern District of California. Pratt’s GirlsDoPorn co-conspirator, Michael Isaac Wolfe, admitted to coercing about 100 “models” between the ages of 18 and 23 into making pornographic videos for their San Diego-based website, which he said would not be shared in the United States. Last year, Alexander Brian Foster pleaded guilty to creating a retaliation video meant to harass the women and their lawyers who initially sued GirlsDoPorn and Pratt.

Authorities said Pratt’s websites generated more than $17 million in revenue between 2012 and October 2019 by using pornographic videos taken by “force, fraud and coercion” of women and underage girls. Federal authorities allege that Pratt and his co-conspirators lured their victims with ads for clothed modeling gigs. When they arrived to the locations — at luxury hotels far from their hometowns — they were instead offered between $3,000 and $5,000 for one-day pornographic shoots. Michael James Pratt, who fled the United States during a San Diego civil trial and was subsequently charged criminally, made his initial appearance in a San Diego federal courtroom Tuesday afternoon. A not guilty plea was entered on Pratt’s behalf to a 19-count indictment that includes charges of sex trafficking, production of child pornography, sex trafficking of a minor, and conspiracy to launder monetary instruments.
